Great question. The Yivríndi have pretty good literacy for their level of technology. In the cities perhaps 75% of the people read, though fewer know how to write correctly because that skill isn't important. Reading is quite important in the cities, because written notices and written contracts are both very common. In rural areas literacy is less widespread, though clan leaders at least know how to read. Reading is usually taught by someone in the clan both in cities and rural areas. There are professional scribes who can teach writing, though this is only for those who need to learn calligraphy and formal writing conventions. Jesse S.
