OT: LaTEX - which tabular?

Hello LaTEX users! I need your help...

I'm currently writing off a thematic English -> German wordlist for
practising working with LaTEX. My problem now is, I want to make Latex print
a table (tabular/tabular*/tabularx) where all three columns are of the same
width (all together must be 9.0cm). I tried tabularx's solution with
{>{\hsize=.33\hsize}X...}, but I did not know where to place this long
command and so there turned out many, many errors when I placed it before or
after {width}.

BTW, has John Cowan forgotten to release the list again or has it been held
because of that very fast spreading virus? I did not receive any Digest
yesterday. Or was there just nobody writing to the list this morning (I
cannot imagine that, though). Usually, the Digests arrive at 06:00h MET (MET
= GMT+1) in the morning, but not so today (28 Jan 2004).
