Pop culture thing. In the '80s there was a musical group from
Australia called "Men at Work" who had a hit song called "Down Under".
The song told the story of an Australian man traveling the world and
finding comfort in familiar things found in strange places - said
familiarity taking the form of, basically, a series of Australian
stereotypes. :) The verse in question runs like this:
Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak my language?"
And he just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich
