Oh no, while in most countries of the world, people rise up to fight evil
dictatorships, in The Netherlands, people rise up to fight boring
politicians. Politics should not only carry out the wishes of the majority,
it should also be interesting. How many countries have a government that
opens a website "www.ukomttochook.nl" (meaning: you are coming too, right?)
to promote the upcoming town council elections, and place bill boards and
broadcast tv commercials begging people to please come to vote.
The Dutch have a pretty ambiguous position towars politics. If the
politicians try to ask the people's opinions before deciding someone, they
will say that that's what the government is for, and that they are too busy
with other things. But if politicians decide without consulting the people,
than the people scream that politics aren't democratic anymore.
But I like our constitution, especially the first article, which is the
article against discrimination of people in The Netherlands.
