Well, English (ME > AusE) has had U > a (via [V], [6] i.e. bUt>bVt>bat "but"), so yes, I would :) Very little surprises me in terms of vowel sound changes Actually, I wrote that at uni before I had a chance to log in & get the document at home. Now I'm home, and I've had a chance to read them, it does seem as if it's ... a little adventurous, the whole thing. Definitely an anadew to remember. -- Tristan
