The latest figures I have show that Hindi-Urdu beats all but
Chinese at present, reckoning 2nd (and later) language speakers
at half their actual numbers. Chinese is also the most commonly
spoken 2nd language in the world, but mostly within China;
English is the most commonly spoken *foreign* language in the world.
Spanish is now #4.
