As I see it, if you want to go contrary to Tolkien, then don't assign
languages to races one-to-one and onto. Rather, follow the example
of natculture and assign languages to geographic regions, which could
have roughly the same effect if one race happens to dominate a region.
Cultural idea: calling a language "elvish" could even be considered a
slur, like calling English "white man language".
