Why not "open" and "close" for "(" and ")" ??
I haven't been in a math class for some years.

In my AP calc class the teacher usually read out loud the answers to the test
after handing it back, and the difference described here was usually
expressed in pauses, e.g. (5+3x)/9 would be "five plus three x . . . over
nine" whereas 5+3x/9 would be "five plus x over three"
