I do know that "everything is relative", therefore I don't want
to debate about this issue. However, I don't think that the
postalveolar articulation is really secondary, the main element is
that the blade of the tongue is much more flat (=raised) and not so
bended (=lowered) than in case of normal [r]. Therefore the tip of
the tong makes a very narrow opening during the trilling and it's
not so lowered that in case normal [r]. This results in the fact
that closures are alternated not by full openings but by partial
closures similar to the articulation of coronal /S/ sounds.
