I think (but I can only tell for sure when I actually say something
like that unprovoked) that I'd be slightly more likely to say
"...without reading them".

ObConlang: Valdyan doesn't tolerate the parasitic gap, but fills it
with the resumptive pronoun (almost wrote "parasitic pronoun" :-)
