Thanks for the informative post. On a side-note, I seem to remember to
have solved once a lingustic puzzle which connected the stress in SC
with the 'nepolnoglasiye' (I'm  damned if I can remember the English
term). Anyway, the stress in words with this group (i.e brada vs. R
boroda, blato vs. R boloto etc.) had a clear correspondence to the
position of the stress in Russian. I'll try to look it up tomorrow
perhaps, if you're interested.
