Yep. "Plato's Stepchildren", Kirk and Uhura kissed. Roddenberry
claimed that that was not a deliberate attempt to be first, that they
hadn't even considered the race issue. I doubt that, but it is true
that they were first to have an interracial kiss. Actually, there
wasn't that much controversy around it, surprisingly. They only got one
complaint from someone who identified himself as pro-segregation. Of
course, many Southern stations refused to air that episode, so that cut
down on the hate mail a bit ...
