Star Wars is a rare exception in sci-fi, an attempt at genuine variety.
Star Trek, on the other hand, has basically everyone speaking perfect
English. Star Wars gives lots of alien languages, and even a few
varieties of the Standard Language, such as Yoda's speach, and Jar-Jar's
people. However, one wonders why seemingly every planet has the same
dialect. Why is Anikin's speach the same as Qui-Gon Jinn's? Other than
Anikan calling a light-saber a "laser sword", there's no hint of any
dialectal variation. Ah, well, can't expect too much, I guess. :-)
