Perhaps all of us are always n00bs at conlanging, then :-p
I like collaboration because it usually helps to steady the course of the
conlang. For example, I feel like I'm horrible at designing vocabulary
roots, because I never feel "settled" with them. Having at least one other
person along would make things more settled, since I'm not the only one
making the language.

Sure. European phonology often seems boring, despite its familiarity :)
I've been investigating North American languages lately, and I think this
project will have a faux resemblance to them. One thing I like about
languages period (regardless of grammar) is rather restrictive
phonotactics, especially no word-final stops (I don't even like them in
English, although I have no trouble pronouncing them :-p ).
How about I e-mail you and we can get things going?
