I was looking at Finninsh for a while. As I was looking at the numbers,
something struck me.
The numbers 1 and 2 are <yksi> and <kaksi> respectively. Now, the numbers 8
and 9 are <kahdeksan> and <yhdeksan>.
now, these, to me, look suspiciously indo-european.
<kahdeksan> looks to me, like an merge of <kaksi> and <deksan>. The <kaksi>
bit is obvious, as 8 is of course, 10 - 2. But, of course, <deksan> is
nowhere near the Finnish word for 10, <kymmenen> . However, it suspiciously
resembles PIE <dekm>.
Can someone please explain this away for my peace of mind?
