Oh, no! The development would be different: PIE *auk(V) > PGerm *auh(V) > OHG *ôh > German *och (with vowel developing as in hoch: diphthong cannot be preserved before the original h in OHG)

PGerm *k > OHG hh > German ch after a vowel (cf. machen : make, etc.). Similarly, *p > ff (Affe : ape), *t > ss (weiss : white). Basilius
