I'm finding the pages that Roger linked on how to construct a
realistic planet to be very cool. It's actually fun to work out
various planets and their stats!

I've decided that in my system there will be 6 planets. 4 inner
planets and two outer planets. The first two will be lifeless, the
third is where the sentient but now extinct species lived, and the
fourth inner planet will be habitable, and has water, but sentient
life never developed there (a sort of nature reserve). The outer two
planets will be gas giants.

I just wish there was a program out there that could show a diagram of
where your planets would lie (if there is, where is it?).
