/Q/ is the rounded form of /A/. /Q/ is a turned script a in the IPA. /Q/ is a rounded low back vowel. /Q/ is the sound used by most speakers of English (who don't use /A/) for a short 'o'. /Q/ is a bit of /A/ and a bit of /O/, but I wouldn't say it was midway between the two.
