A Puzzle, for your entertainment

You are sitting peacefully by your computer, writing, as you often do,
to the Conlang list, when, suddenely, a phone rings. Getting up to
answer it, you find it is a friend, who is an Archeologist working on a
dig in Central England. He says he has found something that could turn
the world upside down, and that he'll show it to you tomorrow, when he
comes to your house. The next day, you hear a knock at the door.
Answering it, you see your archeologist friend looking rather worse for
wear. He has succesfully left his bag at the airport, along with all
his findings, except one, a copy of a tablet he found on one of his
digs. He says, rather excitedly, that it proves that time-travellers
visited Anglo-Saxon England, but has forgotten why the Tablet proves
it. He remembers that it is in modern English, and nothing else.

(see tablet here)

So, what does it say?
