The usual English candidate for "longest word" that's actually been used in live
contexts is "ultramicroscopicosilicovolcanoconiosis", a kind of silicosis.
Of course, one can concoct arbitrarily long chemical terms; in particular,
there is a method of naming proteins that involves using combining morphs
for each of the amino acids in the protein chain.
