The close back unroundedn vowel is [M], in X-SAMPA at least.
A book on the Ottomans I read last year stated that the dotless i of Turkish
sounds like English "u" in eg "but". Now, this book was probably not very
reliable on linguistics, but I can only wonder what weird variety of English
the author speaks ...
