The sound represented by upside down "m" is also the "u" in Japanese but
even the teachers at our school, both of which have lived in Japan for many
years seem to have some of their sounds (specifically the Japanese alveolar
flap represented by IPA "fish-hook R") a bit off what one would call that of
a native.
