In isolation, it sounds pretty similar to me, too, but I find that /s/
sounds very different in /sM\/ (M\ is the symbol used for velar
approximate, which is pretty close to the sound in question) from how it
is in /su/. Not sure if that's supposed to happen, tho. :-)
