Some consider /B D G/ to be more accurate phonemic transcriptions, as
the stop allophones occur only after nasals, if I recall the conditions
correctly.
Interesting speculation for a future Spanish conlang - stop allophones
are lost (via mb, nd, ng -> m, n, /N/, or perhaps mm, nn, /N:/), so that
stops have no voicing distinction, while fricatives do, thus:
p t k
f s x
B D G
Perhaps those could then change to be more "balanced", thus:
p t k
f s x
v z G
Stops would have voiced allophones, perhaps after voiced consonants (so
that /mp/ or /lp/ = [mb], [lb]), later, pre-stop nasals could be lost,
creating new voiced stops, (mp -> b), thus:
p t k
b d g
f s x
v z G
Written as:
p t c/qu
mp nt nc/nqu
f s j/g
b/v d g/gu
(Thus, {banco} = /vago/, {de} = /ze/, {dónde} = /zone/)
