Can't remember exactly when I dropped the <c>, but I think 8th grade or
9th. I was actually inspired by another person who spelled his name
with a <k>, but his name was Nikolaus, or something like that.

True, true ... but when I changed to Nik, I wasn't really aware of those
patterns in English, and I simply didn't like that seemingly-redundant
-ck, and Nic just, IMHO, looks hideous. Some time ago, because I seem
to be the only Nik on any of my listservs, I experimented with just
having Nik as my name, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I went
back to Nik Taylor.
