My first time at this! The language is so-called “Neo-Khitanese” (see:
http://wiki.frath.net/Kilda_Kelen).
The Latin orthography used here is pretty transparent, I hope; or at least
transparent enough for translation exercise purposes. But, {ï} = /I/, {ch} =
/tS/, {j} = /dZ/, {ng} = /N/, {sh} = /S/. Confusingly, {o} and {u} are
open/unrounded, while {ö} and {ü} are rounded (= /o/ and /u/). Vowel length
is phonemic but not indicated in any commonly used Latin or Cyrillic
orthography. Please excuse the on-the-fly interlinear tagging; next time I’ll
be more careful.
