Gary Shannon has used the text of the McGuffey Readers for this purpose.  He
used to have the sentences from the first one nicely set out at
fiziwig.com/tazhu/mcguffey_1.txt .  It looks like fiziwig.com is down, alas,
but there's always Project Gutenberg:  http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/14640 .
