Siyo!
In high school my brother suffered through a year with
a Spanish teacher from Puerto Rico. It would have
been one thing if he'd taught them Puerto Rican
Spanish. Instead, he talked about sports and his side
business most of the time, and then would give the
students Spanish tests. And, as I've said before, the
curriculum my uni Spanish prof used was Latin American
based--but we didn't get too much into dialectal
differences. Did you know that "to catch a bus" in
Mexico means "to have sex with a baby" in Chile?
Dialect really is that important in Spanish.
