Ah, yes, I have that problem in speech too.  I do hear the
difference nowadays, though.  The nasal o is sometimes extremely
close, ie /o~/ or even higher...  but that might be a feature of
"gnangnan", the sugar-sweet overarticulation some French women
use (especially on TV), including heavily aspired release after
sentence-final vowels.  I once knew a girl called Aure'lie who
used to present herself as [oReliC].  ;o)  It's kinda cute. =)))
