The word "animal" has many senses in English in common use,
which can be disambiguated, and have been, by lexicographers.
That does not prevent people from creating new senses,
by extension or metaphor. We can and do play at words.
That doesn't reduce the value of standard-issue dictionaries.
The usual (conventional) meanings are needed as the
jumping-off places for suicidal metaphors ... J/K.
