It was not "bad press," really... just a sense that some linguists were
peeved with him for all the usual reasons... sold a popular book, making
lots of money, rumors that he didn't give all the best credit where
credit
was due.

It wasn't from any sense that he was a bad linguist.  It was actually
only
because I was at Berkeley where he taught, heard all these things which
may
have been unfair, and never really got around to reading the book on
Women
etc.

That's all.  I have since dumped those prejudices, and now I don't have
any
time to read anything.
