Looking through the archives, I spotted the following thread, which took
place while I was nomail for a while

Various people's attempts to pronounce Khangaþyagon are given as
ka.na.Tan.'ja.g@n
kaN'gaT.jaN.gon
kaN.ba'Tja:gon
kaN.ga.Tja'gOn
kANgATjA'gon
"XANga"Tja:gOn
"k&.n@.'th&g.jAn
The correct pronunciation is
'x&N&T"j&gon
(although I myself often render the last vowel as O, but I can get away
with this because Tense/Lax isn't phonemic). Some of these may have been
based on an erroneous spelling *Kangathyagon given by the original poster.
The only person who remembered the correct spelling then managed to render
"kh" as X instead of X. I imagine that the way the misspelling came about was
Kh interpreted as k_h
Aspiration forgotten about, since it's not phonemic in English.
Pronunciation remembered as k
Spelling based on remembered pronunciation.
My favourite mispronunciation is kaN.ba'Tja:gon
