very important, how you abbreviate names.
mine gets variously abbreviated to Mat, Matt and Maff
( the latter being my preferred . . . was what my
brother called me when he was little )
my brother has a friend called Richard whose name get
shortened to Chard [tS@d], which is rather nice.
my brother himself is Nicholas, Nick or Nish ( which
is what we called him when he was little to take the
piss out of his accend )
for good abbreviations tho, my aunt, who goes by the
juggernaut name of Laetitia Brocklebank ( yes, really
), abbreviates to Laete, which is very nice as it's
also a latin word ( the adverb 'happily' ). that said,
MAFF was of course the uk ministry of agriculture
fisheries and food ( and hence the source of the
expression 'shut your ministry'='shut your maff' where
/m&f/ is the london pronunciation of 'mouth'
oops, been rabbiting on a bit. will shut up
bn
