Accent marks weren't good enough for them? Although there are some pretty
funky characters, like 0x03E (except I don't like that thin descender; the
thick one is fine), but 5x1D2...ugh, what were they thinking?
Actually, now that I consider it, I am reminded of my own scheme, dreamed up
shortly after I discovered the power of LaTeX and accent marks. But that is
an evil too great to visit upon an unsuspecting world. Besides, most of it
was just adding various hachecks, breves, caps, accents, diaresis, etc. to
consonants. Think "kidnapping the Latin alphabet for immoral purposes" will
give you a pretty good idea of what I had in mind. And, of course, it would
have been hopelessly impossible to render in ASCII! :)
