Interesting topic!
I usually avoid loanwords and words very similar to other langs,
but don't worry when a word sounds like an offensive word in my
L1(Portuguese)
E.g. My father, also a conlanger, criticized me when I coined the Sraelish
word for "cow", which is "kue" /ky/, because it sounds very similar to the
Portuguese word "cu", which means "ass" - a taboo word down here . ;-)
