I'm from Dallas, and I associate that pronunciation with regions to the south of
here, eg. Houston on down. My sand is /s&~d/ which I don't thing is especially
attractive sounding, but it's what falls outta my mouth.
"Send and sinned" are prefect homophones for me -- /sInd/.
