I remember being romantically moved by a quotation in Anne Lindbergh's
_North to the Orient_ about "mountaines of Yce in the frozen Sea".
I suppose I knew even at the time that "Yce" was neither more nor
less than "ice", but I pronounced it to myself [jIs], and it
seemed quite more impressive than plain old ice, whether in
the form of icebergs or not.
