Here in the midwestern US, Americanized Chinese food seems
quite different from restaurant to restaurant. Some good, some
poor, most mediocre.
My vote for the best is a small place in Ann Arbor. The sign says,
"China Gate" in English but "Great China" in "ideograms." Do you
suppose this is meant to be some kind of pun or inside joke?
