base forms as verbs need an overt copula? Languages that
don't have a lot of base verbs for things like stative adjectives
are exactly the type that *do* need copulas (e.g., English). If
you wanted everything to be a base verb, it seems like the
last thing you'd need is a copula.
As a note, I think Lojban is base-verbal (is that a word?).
That is, the word for "dog", is really "to be a dog". Lojban
people want to confirm or deny this? Also, what about
conjunctions and prepositions?
