In informal speech: when "the" is in front of a vowel it is intergrated
into the word (i.e. "the apple" becomes /D{pl/; "the hunger"
becomes /D@Ngr/). When not in front of a vowel, usually /D@/.
In more formal speech: /Di/ is used in front of a vowel, but in front of a
consonant, it depends on how smart I'm trying to sound. <g>
