I've played a version of that-- the difference being that the first letter,
and subsequent additions, can be from anywhere in the word. So: K - NK -
NKS - NKST - and so on (inkstand). I don't remember the bit about creating
an actual word, though.
Another one involved spelling words out, but with unnatural breaks: "How do
you pronounce bee eh see (pause) kay eh see (pause) aitch ee?"
