I found a directory of notes for a course on Romance
languages which takes up many question of historical
language change, most of which are of general interest
to historical conlangers.

As Max Weinreich said (in Yiddish), a language is
a dialect with an army and a navy. Which means that
Afrikaans is now a dialect of Xhosa.--John Cowan
