Well, ever heard of Pim Fortuyn? Maybe the closest thing the Netherlands ever
had of an extreme-right. His ideas are quite common of what is normally called
extreme-right (nationalism, xenophobia, blaming all the problems of the country
on foreigners and specially Moslims, in favor of abolishing the article of the
constitution against discrimination, cult of the personality - he is now nearly
considered as a saint, I wonder why there's nobody yet who claimed to have seen
him appear in their house and cure them of their cancer -, arrogance and
megalomania - he was elected in the city council of Rotterdam, and basically
said that he would give at most one day per week of his time to the town, and
none if he was elected as MP... And he said that if he had to be part of a
government it would be as Prime Minister or nothing... -), but in economical
matters he was also at the far right. Basically (he says that in other words in
his book, but it comes down to that) poor people are losers. If you're poor,
it's only because you are lazy and/or not worth of anything. With this idea,
only the rich are allowed to get anything, and the poor mustn't be helped at
all. So the social security has to disappear, hospitals have to disappear to be
replaced by private clinics, people get their salary when they have to stop
working for a long time only if they got a disease or an accident related to
their work (so basically if you get a cancer you're not allowed to receive your
salary anymore), rich people mustn't pay taxes (he comes from a rich family
BTW). Basically he spitted on the very people who voted for him (most of his
voters are very poor), but they didn't know because they listened only to his
speeches against foreigners... But since he was a populist he went back on his
words and conceeded that people get a social security and that they still get
their salary when they have to stop working because of a cancer or a thing like
that.
So there are extreme right organisations and people who are actually extreme
rightist. Maybe few, but I'm not sure (the French Front National is both
fascist and economically rightist for instance). In fact, most of today's
extreme right organisations are usually rightist as well, as far as I know.
Christophe.
