The planets must be in alignment, for there's another article at
kuro5hin.org (http://www.kuro5hin.org/?
op=displaystory;sid=2002/6/5/111631/2102) regarding the creation of decent-
looking PDFs with LaTeX.

I looked a couple of months ago, and the short answer is "no." For my
fonting needs, I used to use Fontographer...which is unfortunately a heap of
junk; kerning seems to be completely foobar. Just out of curiousity, would
someone be willing to kern my font if I were to do the grunt work of creating
the shapes?
I also looked into METAFONT, but frankly, it's black magic of the darkest,
arcanest sort.
