NATLANG: Middle English Stories

Long time no see (or read, whichever)! Alas, real life keeps me from
playing on Conlang for the time being. Five classes, a job, and a
significant other can cut down on time spent online. :P
Anyhow. I'm taking a course on the history of English, and for my term
project I have to write a story in English and then translate it into
Middle English (plus include an interlinear). I'll certainly come visit
again when I'm ready for critiques and corrections of my Middle English,
but for now I have a more general question:
What are some common themes in Middle English period stories? We're
supposed to try to make the subject matter, as well as the language, as
authentic to period as we can. I don't know anything about what was
written during that time -- all I know is I probably can't write about my
conculture, ne? ;)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'll keep you all posted on how
the story progresses. :)
TIA.
