[c] is a (medio)palatal stop. You get it a lot for /k/ before
front vowels in languages that don't have a /c/. The only
European languages I know of that have /c/ are Hungarian
and Basque, plus that Icelandic and Greek have [c] which
may be either /c/ or /kj/ + /k/ before front vowels depending
on analysis.
