I've seen "L." in a book on butterflies. More frequently, "Linnaeus" is written out like any other name. Even though they're technically part of the scientific name, the author's name and date of publication are often omitted. And even when the author's name is given, the date is usually left out. For instance, the scientific name of the fox squirrel is most often given simply as "_Sciurus niger_", less frequently as "_Sciurus niger_ Linnaeus". Technically it should probably be something like "_Sciurus niger_ Linnaeus, 1758", but hardly anyone ever bothers with that level of detail. -- languages of Kolagia---> +---<http://www.io.com/~hmiller/languages.html>--- Thryomanes /"If all Printers were determin'd not to print any (Herman Miller) / thing till they were sure it would offend no body, moc.oi @ rellimh <-/ there would be very little printed." -Ben Franklin
