Getting interestinger. The fish sauce is also found in Vietnam, nuoc mam (there are hooks on the -uo-), highly fragrant, and Thai nam pla. I recall one time in Saigon, passing by the nuoc-mam jar recycling center. Eeeeew. A connection here: Indian _garam masala_ spice mixture :: Indonesian garam 'salt'?
