Oh, I know now! See Arthaey's message regarding the etymology
of strawberry. There's a section on it in the Wikipedia entry for
"strawberry":

Quite frankly, I think I was happier when I thought the "straw"
in "strawberry" didn't refer to anything at all. Now I'll never be
able to go my town's Strawberry Festival without thinking about
where that "straw" came from. ;) I think it'd be hilarious if the
first guy to grow them was named Harold Straw, and he sought
to brand his berries...
