It's definately /bæ.../ for me, although I'm still scatching my head trying
to decide if I pronounce a nasalized vowel followed by /k/, or if there's a
serious /N/ in there.
It's certainly not /ei/ or /ej/, and /e/ is something that I don't think
ever occurs in simple form in my speech.
